Frequently Asked Questions
How can I rent a campground cottage?
|
Cottages in the Campground are occupied primarily by the owners and their
families. However, some owners do rent their cottages for a limited number of
weeks. Individuals interested in renting a Campground cottage should consult
local realtors and newpapers.
The MVCMA Office does not serve as a source of information on the availability of
cottages for rent.
|
Do the cottages stay in families for generations?
|
Many of the cottages have been in families for two or three generations, although a few have
been in one family even longer. However, each year a few do sell, and new
owners move in.
|
Are the cottages occupied year-round?
|
Only a few of the cottages are year-round residences. As a matter of fact, most
cottages are not insulated.
|
Where do cottage owners get the lanterns for Illumination night?
|
The tradition is that the lanterns remain in the cottage when it is sold to new
owners. Because of the fragile quality of the lanterns, each year a few new ones
must be purchased to replace tattered ones, and these are available at the Cottage Museum Shop
on Trinity Park. Every August a lantern painting class is offered.
|
Is the Campmeeting Association part of the Methodist Church?
|
No. Although the MVCMA was established by
Methodists, and, for much of its history, was governed
exclusively by Methodists, it has always been
administratively autonomous, and today it is strongly
interdenominational and ecumenical. The
Trinity Methodist Church is located on the
Campgrounds, but its governance is
totally separate from that of the
MVCMA.
|
Where do the cottage owners live in the off-season?
|
Cottage owners come from all over the country -- from as far away as Texas and California to
nearby states in New England. The cottages are summer gathering places where
scattered families can come together each year.
