Millenium Gospel Choir
Saturday, July 12, 2009
7:00 p.m., free-will offering
Established in the year 2000, the NEC Millennium Gospel Choir was conceptualized by
Patricia Dance and Donnell L. Patterson in order to bring together some of the areas
best known ministers of music and a diverse body of gospel singers whose actions
demonstrate that they serve God, both spiritually and musically. Their common
purpose: To praise, worship, and glorify God with their whole hearts through gospel and
spiritual music expressions. That year, under the auspices of Calvin Hicks,
Director of the NECs Department of Community Collaborations, 200 anointed musicians
were handpicked to sing with gospel recording artist Richard Smallwood.
Since 2000, the NEC Millennium Gospel Choir continues to be one of the areas most
diverse and requested choirs. The Choir is multi-cultural, -ethnic, and
-generational (ranging from ages 16 to 82) and reflects more than 30 regional
churches. Its most recent concerts and appearances include the: Annual NEC
Thomas A. Dorsey Gospel Jubilee, 2006 Visiting Nurses Association National Awards
Ceremony, 2005 and 2006 Museum of Fine Arts Holiday Concert Series, 2005 National REMAX
Convention-Opening Ceremony, 2004 Democratic National Convention-Opening Ceremony, and the
2004 Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum Concert. Additionally, the Choir has
appeared with internationally renowned gospel artists: Kurt Carr, Donald Lawrence, Alvin
Slaughter and Richard Smallwood.
This evening, under the direction of James A. Early and Renese King and assisted by
Patricia Dance, members of the NEC Millennium Gospel Choir will render songs of praise,
worship, and prayer.
