Services - Summer 2008
Interdenominational worship services are held in the Tabernacle at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays
during July and August. The Tabernacle Choir is open to all who are
interested; there are no auditions. Rehearsal is on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m.
All are welcome to join in worship at the Tabernacle.

July 6 In 2005, The Rev. Dr. Anthony Pappas was called by the American
Baptist Churches of Massachusetts as its Executive Minister after having served since 1995
as the regions Old Colony area minister. Prior
to that, he was the pastor of Harbor Church of Block Island, Rhode Island, for 20 years. Since that time he has worked to help small
churches find renewal and growth in their ministry and mission. He is the author of five books related to the
ministry of small churches
July 13
The Rev. Elizabeth Walker, popular television journalist and former anchor of CBS4 news in
Boston, is currently the executive producer and host of Sunday with Liz
Walker. She has received many
prestigious awards for her television work and documentaries.. Her latest documentary on Daufar will be shown in
the Tabernacle on July 11th at 7:30 P.M. She
continues to serve on a number of community organizations and boards including the Board
of Trustees for Andover Newton Theological Seminary
July 20
The Rev. Juliann V. Whipple, an ordained Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) minister, is a highly
decorated veteran Air Force Chaplalin who has received numerous accomodations, including
the Join Service achievement medal. Her service to the nation includes her current
position as Chaplain, Pennsylvania, Commonwealth House of Representatives. She is a frequent gest speaker at functions and events
throughout the country, such as PA Capitol Centennial Celebration, multiple 911 Memorials,
and tribute to Ronald Reagan at the PA State Capitaol at the behest of the Governor. When
not in service, she spends her time caring for her two year old son, William, and her
husband, Bill.
July 27
The Rev. Edward Kilbourne is a singer, storyteller, and folk theologian. He is known for his collections of moving music,
clever humor, and insightful monologues. He
combines acoustic guitar, keyboard, and singing with a story-telling style that has been
compared to that of Garrison Keillor, the radio humorist from Lake Wobegon His wife, Kathleen, will be presenting a Spiritual
Day Spa for women on July 29th and he will be presenting Vineyard Stories on
July 28th and 29th.
August 3
Father Edward Beck is a member of the Passionist Community of Harlem in New York City. His memoir, "God Underneath: Spiritual Memoirs
of a Catholic Priest" (2002) is a series of stories about the remarkable people he
has encountered as a priest. His latest book,
"Soul Provider: Spiritual Steps to Limitless Love," is about how we integrate spiritual
virtues into our busy and modern lives. In past summers, he has conducted workshops in
Edgartown, and on Saturday, August 2nd, he will hold one in the campground
August 10
The Rev. Robert H. Spalding is a retired United Church of Christ minister who has served
churches in Minnesota, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, and West Barnstable, MA. He is a graduate of Yankton College, the University
of New Hampshire, and the Hartford Seminary in Connecticut.
More recently, he has been the interim minister for five churches in Massachusetts
and Rhode Island.
August 17
The Rev. Dr. Michael F. Price is the Senior Minister of the First Christian Church in Washington,
North Carolina. Previously, he served churches
in Louisiana, Virginia, and two other Christian churches in North Carolina. He earned masters degrees from West Virginia University
and Texas Christian University, and his doctorate from George Washington University. He has preached several previous years in the
Tabernacle
August 24
The Rev. Dr. Brian Wren is an Emeritus Professor of Worship at the Columbia Theological
Seminary in Decatur, Georgia. He is the author
of several books, including Praying Twice: The Music and Words of Congregational
Song (2000). As an internationally
acclaimed hymn-poet, his work appears in hymnals of all denominations. He holds both MA
and PhD degrees from Oxford University. He is
married to The Rev. Dr. Susan Heafield who is now serving in the United Methodist
Cooperative Parish of Marthas Vineyard
August 31
The
Rev. Dr. Edward VanderHey is the Pastor Emeritus of the Sanibel Community Church on Sanibel
Island, Florida, where he now resides. He is a
graduate of Eastern Seminary and holds a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Andover Newton
Seminary in Massachusetts. Formerly, he was
the Senior Pastor of The First Baptist Church in Fall River, Massachusetts. He has also served churches in Red Bank, New Jersey,
and Syracuse, New York. He preached in the
Tabernacle several years ago.
