Guided Walking Tours

Guided walking tours of the Martha's Vineyard Campmeeting Association grounds start at the Tabernacle every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 a.m. during the months of July and August.   The tour is about 90 minutes.

Fee is $10.00 per person.   Children under 12 are free.

A free pass to the Cottage Museum is included.

To step onto the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association grounds is to step back over 160 years into a civil and indeed a civilized way of living.   The unique character of the Campgrounds, a heritage from quite a different day, has been wonderfully preserved by the many generations of cottage owners.   The boundaries of the Campgrounds are clearly defined, enough to move some people to say that when they enter the grounds, it is like entering another world.

The MVCMA grew out of the religious "camp meetings" of the 19th century.   The first meeting took place on these grounds in 1835 with nine church tents and a crude speaker's stand.   From that modest one-half acre site in a "venerable grove of oaks" has grown the 34-acre area that makes up the Campground today.   Here the famous iron Tabernacle towers over 312 privately owned picturesque Victorian gingerbread cottages in a truly unique community.

Private tours may be arranged by calling 508-693-0525.
