Welcome to the MVCMA
Digital Archive

The Digital Archive is an initiative of the Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association to preserve and digitize historical records of the MVCMA and the larger Oak Bluffs community, and to make those records available to those who wish to learn more about our fascinating history.

Here you will find a variety of historical records, including photographs of the Campground and Oak Bluffs from the 1860’s to the early 20th century and tax assessments, as well as various other tools and instructions to help you navigate through this material and to perform your own research if you wish.

Note on usage of materials

Photographs sold commercially before 1923 are in the public domain.  The MVCMA nevertheless requests that you identify the source of any photograph from this site that you share with others or publish in any form.

For photographs not otherwise credited on this site, the photo credit should be “MVCMA collection.”

For photographs on this site that are attributed to a donor, the photo credit should be “[Donor’s name, e.g., John Smith] collection.”

Share Your Old Photos!

The MVCMA Digital Archive is also a forum for the community to share its historical images of the Campground and Oak Bluffs. Contributions to the Digital Archive may be of the photograph itself, or of a high resolution digital image.

Donated photographs and donated images of photographs that you own will be attributed to the donor on our website (e.g., “John Smith Collection”), if you so request when making the donation.

If you choose to donate the photograph itself, then you may be entitled to a tax deduction, as the MVCMA is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) charity. Alternatively, you may choose to keep the original photograph, and donate to the Digital Archive a high-resolution digital image of the photograph.

The MVCMA has limited scanning capability and may be able to assist donors in generating digital images of their photographs.  If providing a digital image of your photograph, we request that the scan be in color and at 600dpi for photographs, and in B/W at 16 bit grayscale and 1200 dpi for glass negatives.
