About the event

“Camping in the Wilderness: Nature and the American Campmeeting,” a joint presentation by Sarah Leaman of the  MVCMA’s Historical Preservation and Archive Committee and Sara Hines, author of Cottage Communities - The American Camp Meeting Movement: A Study in Lean Urbanism (Hines Art Press, 2015).

Leaman will discuss the spiritual significance of wilderness in the early campmeeting movement, and Hines will share what she has learned about the natural elements of some of the 100+ campmeetings she has visited across the United States. Hines’ book, full of fascinating images of more than 50 campmeeting communities, will be available at the event and in the MVCMA gift shop.
