I am West Virginia born and raised, and I’m proud to say it. I spent over a third of my life there, was educated there, and promote the state whenever I get the chance. Everything about the state makes me proud. The residents are some of the most caring and respectful that I know, the food is some of the best, and the sheer beauty of the state is breathtaking. John Denver was right, it’s almost heaven. And that’s why I like to write about it in my books.

Whether it’s my baseball playing days in college or some historic event that happened years ago in the area, I have fond memories of those West Virginia hills and growing up in the Ohio Valley. It’s what I remember…it’s what I know…it’s what I tend to write about.

Maybe that’s why most of my books have a common thread running throughout. It’s not just wanting to keep those memories alive to “remember not to forget” the people, the places, and the events that went a long way in making me who I am. I want to tell others about the events among the hills and valleys, and living along the banks of the Ohio River. Yes, I want to keep those memories alive, but I also want my readers to know what I know.
